Follow that food truck

I've been reading about food trucks and seeing stories on the mobile gourmet vehicles that seem to be "on the go" in cities like San Francisco and New York. But, to be honest, when I envision a food truck it resembles the Lee's Catering trailer that fills my little Honda with fumes of greasy gut-bomb breakfasts that I often have the unfortunate luck of sitting behind at traffic lights. Let me tell you, I have been enlightened! Thank you MIHO!

Yesterday a group of my coworkers and I headed out to get lunch from a "farm to street" restaurant on wheels. My preconceived notion of the experience was warmed by the San Diego summer sunshine, the line of hungry diners patiently waiting on the grassy hill and the quirky, clean appearance of the truck that would soon serve us tasty treats!

My stomach started growling when I saw the description of the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) sandwich stuffed with brown sugar and black pepper glazed all natural Vande Rose duroc bacon... I mean, come on! I don't even know what all of that means, but it made my mouth water!

When it came time to place my order I was greeted with a very friendly hello semi-shouted through a small "walk-through" window. Just in my line of sight was a strategically placed organic Limoncello cupcake that tempted my tongue as I ordered the BLAT. I felt good as I found a spot on the lawn to relax knowing the bottle of water I purchased was going to help end poverty. And I felt even better about 10 minutes later when they called my name indicating it was time to dive into my lunch.

One word, A-MAZ-ING!!! The bread was a soft nutty bed nestling the most delicious layers of flavor I've ever encountered behind the label "sandwich". The bacon was thick, salty and so sweet... the heirloom tomato was meaty and the avocado perfectly ripe and smooth. Accented by a garlic aioli sauce, my taste buds were in heaven.

I could go on and on (I'm not kidding!) but I'll just tell you, if you live in San Diego hunt MIHO down. Their menu changes each week, but if yesterday's preview of grilled peach grass-fed Angus cheeseburgers and fried green tomato sammies are any indication, you can't go wrong! I've been converted, MIHO won me over. AND they gave me a punch card, only 8 more visits and I get a free lunch!
